Unit 5 at Tianwan nuclear power plant, developed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and located in Lianyungang in East China's Jiangsu province, successfully completed its full-power continuous operation assessment on Sept 8, meaning it now meets the conditions for commercial operation.
To date, the number of nuclear power units in the service of CNNC has reached 22, and the installed capacity has increased from 19.112 million kilowatts to 20.230 million kilowatts.
Unit 5 at Tianwan nuclear power plant has a rated capacity of 1.118 million kilowatts and adopts M310+ pressurized water reactor technology. The unit officially started construction on Dec 27, 2015. After more than four years, it has passed major project milestones such as civil construction, installation, commissioning, charging and achieving criticality and grid connection.
The localization rate of Tianwan nuclear plant Units 5 and 6 has reached over 95 percent.
